Unwind at The CURRENT Hotel Tampa: A Weekend Getaway

My husband and I are huge fans of booking the occasional (read: at least every few months if I get my way) weekend away to relax, recharge and connect with each other. When he suggested we go to Tampa for the weekend about a month ago, I immediately started googling “unique hotels in Tampa” and came across The CURRENT Hotel. I’m a girl that reads a lot of reviews before booking any sort of getaway or vacation, and The CURRENT Hotel was full of great ones. I knew this was the hotel we were going to stay at.

The CURRENT is located on beautiful Tampa Bay, in Rocky Point, and is close to restaurants, attractions and the Tampa International Airport. There are several great restaurants within walking distance right on the bay. We tried Whiskey Joe’s, a casual eatery on the water with “Floribbean” style food (a mix of Floridian and Caribbean flavors). They have an amazing shrimp appetizer- sautéed shrimp in white wine and garlic butter with diced tomatoes, feta cheese, and garlic bread to dip. YUM! There is also the Julian, located on the first floor of The Current. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and are open to hotel guests and the public. We took advantage of the free breakfast vouchers that came complimentary when we booked our stay through our Chase Visa credit card and let me tell you…we truly enjoyed every bite! My favorite thing on the menu was the yogurt with granola and fresh fruit, and my husband liked the breakfast sandwich so much that he had it both mornings.

If you are into coffee, there’s also a coffee shop near the lobby that serves Buddy Brew coffee, a specialty coffee roaster located in the Tampa area. They don’t have a full menu, but are happy to make whatever drink you like from what they have available. I enjoyed stopping here before enjoying a few calm moments on the hotel’s patio in the morning.

Other amenities include a bar right across from the Julian (you can also order food to enjoy here), with plenty of seating inside and out on the gorgeous patio overlooking the bay, and Rox Rooftop bar, located on the very top floor of the hotel. We didn’t enjoy a drink here, but we did go up to check out the amazing views. There is also a large pool and really nice fitness center.

The CURRENT is modern yet inviting with lots of little luxurious touches. My favorite thing about the rooms is that they all have a view of the bay with floor to ceiling windows to watch the sunset. The beds were like sleeping on clouds and there was colorful artwork and art installations on every floor that was for sale.

I enjoyed our little getaway so much that we are heading back next weekend! I can’t wait to read by the pool with a drink in hand and enjoy the pretty views.
